The shadowy portal opened up to reveal placid lake surrounded by trees and dense foliage. As Harrison stepped out of its dark corridor the door closed behind him, leaving him alone in this world to become a full-fledged Shinigami. You have one year, he remembered his Master saying in some other part of the universe. It wouldn't have hurt them to tell him a little the place he was being exiled, but it looked like he'd have to learn things as he went along. With nobody around the body of water, he headed into the forest and followed an abandoned dirt trail to who-knows-where, all the while hoping that somebody would come to help.

"We haven't been around the Source for a while." Said Raven, turning away from the table."I don't want to go by myself... I'll be lonely." She turned to grin in a rather creepy way at Saleem, who was busy sharpening her claws. She looked up, and rolled her eyes. "Do I have to?" the fox demon mumbled, and looked back down. She placed her claws in her lap. "Come on, Saleem. It'll only take a moment. I thought you liked it there." "It's pretty and all, but it has..." Saleem shuddered. "Seashells. I hate seashells." "Saleem, those are rocks. Come on, let's go!" Raven grabbed her friend by the wrist, and dragged her up the dirt trail. "It's not too far~" she said, and suddenly stopped dead. "Who is that?" Saleem skidded ungracefully to a stop. "It can't be Saix, I kept an eye on him..." "But he's wearing a black cape!" Protested Raven. "And so are you." Saleem said. "Or at least, you used too." she resisted the urge to flick her friend's nose. "It's gotta be Saix!" Raven said, and dashed up the road. "Saix!" she yelled at Harrison, in an angry tone. When she'd gotten about 10 tail-lengths away, her face was all red. "You-you're not Saix... I'm sorry!" she gasped. Saleem stalked over to them. "Who are you and why are you so near the Source?" Saleem growled.

"Saix!" Harrison heard somebody yell at him from behind. Turning around, he found himself face-to-face with a strange animal-human combination with an excess of tails fanning out from behind her. As he adjusted his body to look more like the people here, he introduced himself while he noticed another cat-eared girl approach.
"My name's Harrison," he explained as he stole a glance at the lake before making eye contact with the newcomers. "You probably wouldn't believe me if I told you how I got here, but rest assured when I say that I won't harm this 'Source' of yours.
"Now, where am I, exactly?" the Soul Reaper asked. "And is the rest of the world like this?" he hoped in his mind that it wasn't; it would incredibly difficult to find a soul amongst all of this dense foliage. Then again, Harrison had just run into two beings whose aura indicated that they had hearts, but he decided to wait awhile and see if there were any other likely candidates around; it wouldn't do any good to kill of only two sentient beings on a planet.

"I'm Raven, and this is my friend, Saleem. Sorry about her, she's not very nice around strangers." Raven apologized, looking embarrassed at Saleem's obvious hostility. "It's nice to meet you Harrison. You're on Welshinavia, and no, not all of the planet is like this. This place is special, so it doesn't get a lot of visitors." Raven said, smiling warmly. Saleem was growling and flexing her claws, but made no move to attack, or at least, no obvious ones.
"Anyways, This is one of the most remote spots in this dimension, so if you want to see the others, come with me. We can go into town, where we have a laundromat, a Pizza hut, Taco bell, and some other things. Over in the distance is a very dangerous area, where deos run around. You'd want to stay away from them. This is where me and my friends stay!" she said.
"...You're talking to much again." Saleem growled.
"Don't be like that." Raven chided. "We should be nice to new people."

As Saleem and Raven bickered for several moments, Harrison took a moment to look back the 'Source' that he had ended up nearby. It was a pretty unassuming pond, but he'd have to investigate its importance in case some situation arose in the future.
"Going into town sounds like a good idea," he said during a lull in the argument. "It seems there isn't too much to look at here, and I'm always welcome to meet some more people." While he spoke, Harrison thought about the kind of soul that he was expected to reap; it had to be relatively pure, somehow encompassing a genuine personality of sacrifice and something else (the last bit had been garbled as he walked into the portal). So far, Saleem seemed to be a bit too agressive whereas Raven may be a worthy candidate for his mission despite her talkative nature. He made a mental note as he began to walk in the direction from which Saleem and Raven had come from.
Turning around, he added, "You can just call me Harris if that's easier for you; I really don't minds so long as you know who you are talking about."

(So, are you able to come to my party?:3)
"WHo I'm talking about..." Raven pondered over this a couple moments, then smiled. "Ok then, Harris. If you'll walk with us, we'll show you where the town is!" she said, and began to walk away. Saleem eyed him suspiciously, but turned away to whisper in Raven's ea, which flicked at the tickling breath. 'he creeps me out.' Raven let out an exasperated-sounding sigh. "Oh Saleem, you're Always being so negative."she declared with a mock southern-belle accent that sounded more like aforementioned southern belle was being eaten by a cow. Saleem snickered. " Hey luck favors the prepared." she said. "I am prepared, I am always prepared." Raven said in a rather haughty way. Raven looked back. "Come on! If you're hungry, there's a lot of good food!" She said to harris. Saleem perked up at the mention of food, and began to run. Raven kept walking for a few moments, and then jumped up into the air... and stayed in the air, She flew off and began to race Saleem, who protested at the unfairness of Raven's flight.

Raising an eye at Raven's ability, Harrison watched the two of them for a moment longer before following close behind with his feet hovering a couple of feet off the ground. In hindsight, it should have been expected for a person named after a bird to fly, proving that there was more than meets the eye with her. As he followed through the dense foliage and abandoned the 'Source' behind him, thoughts raced through his mind too quickly to latch onto a single one: Who were the Deos? Were there others like Raven and Saleem? Could he manage to reach his goal within a year's time. Worried by such thoughts, he opened the pocketwatch sewn into his robe's fabric, comforted by its monotonous ticking. Admiring its intricate desgins of spirals and flairs on the dial's surface, he noticed up in the right-hand corner of the device a timer had appeared, broadcasting only three numerals in near-black scarlet: 365. Time waits for no being, he remembered his master saying, even for those who end it. Snapping the contraption shut with a slight click, he quickly floated in the direction of his aquiantances, ignoring his duties for a moment longer as they lay behind him at the water's edge. [END]
